My Favorite Things: Clarins Beauty Flash Balm

I had never invested in high end skin care till last year. For the last seven years, I have been living on my own, moving from place to place, climate zone to climate zone all in the name of getting one education degree after another. And all this moving and shifting had taken its toll on my otherwise non-complaining, low maintenance skin. After spending two consecutive summers under an unforgiving sun without using any kind of sun-protection, not even an umbrella, my skin looked every bit of the sorry neglected creature it was.
Anyhoo, around this time, my long time, long distance boyfriend and I had decided to tie the knot and with the wedding preparations on the way and many research into makeup and skin care woke me up to the necessity of pampering my skin. That was my introduction to investment in good skin care and I have not looked back since.

Of my many favorite products, Clarins Beauty Flash balm occupies a pride of place.

Quick Swatch: Revlon Lip Butter in Pink Truffle

I did a post on the beauty products I turn to on the days I want a no-makeup yet put together look.
I got a request to put up swatches of the Revlon Lip Butter in Pink Truffle and so here it is. It stays on my lips for about 3-4 hours if I do not eat in between that time. I will not do a detailed post here but there are many lovely reviews of this product online.

Revlon lip butter Pink Truffle

On my lips, it looks a bit more pink than it is in the tube and I understand this is the case with many of these lip butters. The shade might turn out different on your lips.
Anyhow, here is what it looks on my lips.

Bare lips for reference

For reference: I oscillate between NC 40 and 44 in MAC depending on the season since I spend most of my time under a harsh unforgiving sun. At the moment I am about NC42.

My Favorite Things: Everyday beauty products

From Monday to Friday, I live on a beautiful campus away from the city. I visit Kolkata only on weekends, and that too, not regularly. With all its perks, living in a rural setting does not allow one to really dress up much.

So here are the products I turn to when I am on campus, for the finished look without looking made-up.

Gala of London Shade 811 Pearl : A maroon polish review

Gala of London is a brand I really like when it comes to nail polishes. They are super cheap, come in over 70 shades and are great for water marbling. They come in two different sizes, 7ml and 9 ml and the shade selection is different for the two different sizes. I have already put up a couple of reviews (Shade 612 and Shade 1 and 7) of this brand and they were of paints I really liked. The current review is however of a paint I did not like as much.

Product name: Gala of London in Pearl 811
Product price: INR 65-90 at local cosmetic stores.
Product quantity: 9 ml.
Shelf life: Not mentioned.

Two blue nail polish from Revlon: Fashionista and Turquoise Blue Review

Today I have for you two blue polishes from Revlon. Revlon is one of my favorite brands when it comes to nail polish.
Product name:  Revlon 453 Fashionista and 472 Turquoise Blue
Product price: INR 150
Product quantity: 8 ml.
Shelf life: Three years.

My thoughts:
The shade 453 Fashionista is a warm deep, somewhat muddy, teal color. The shade 472 on the other hand is a turquoise that is strangely difficult to photograph. It comes of a bit lighter in the photograph than in person. They both have a creme finish and are easy to apply. The polishes are opaque in two coats and has decent drying time.

Mint Mani for Talia Joy

Talia Joy was a young youtube beauty guru who was fighting cancer. Recently, just a few days before her fourteenth birthday, Talia lost her battle and passed away. Her countless subscribers have watched her brave the ravages of cancer over the years as she created video after another on youtube - videos which were funny and wonderful and such a pleasure to watch. I was one of her endless admirers and when Nicole of Nail Polish Wars started the Mint Manis for Talia, I knew I had to take part. I was travelling for a few days and couldn't do the post on Friday, so here is my belated post, my mint mani for the courageous little girl who gave the world so much in her short short time on this planet.
Just keep swimming Talia. You will always be in our hearts.

NOTD: Neon Orange and Maroon Ruffian Manicure

I did a free-hand ruffian manicure the other day with a neon orange peeking out from under a blackened maroon polish. Hope you like it. Leave your comments below. Do subscribe or like the facebook page, it will make me happy.

Two Gala of London polish review: No1 and No7

Hello all. Today, I will review two polish from Gala of London. I already talked about my love for the brand here. The two polishes up for review today are both neons from Gala and have similar formula so they don't really require separate posts.
Product name: Gala of London in No. 1 and No. 7
Product price: INR 40-50 at local cosmetic stores.
Product quantity: 7 ml.
Shelf life: Not mentioned.

My thoughts:
No.1 is a lime green and No. 7 is a bright orange. The polish formula in both cases is similar,  streaky after one coat. These even out after the second coat but the nail line is visible. On application of three-four coats, they become opaque.

No. 1 Lime Green
No. 7 Bright Orange

A pretty green polish review: Gala of London Shade 612

Gala of London is a brand I really like when it comes to nail polishes. They are super cheap, come in over 70 shades and are great for water marbling. They come in two different sizes, 7ml and 9 ml and the shade selection is different for the two different sizes.
Product name: Gala of London in Pearl 612
Product price: INR 65-90 at local cosmetic stores.
Product quantity: 9 ml.
Shelf life: Not mentioned.

My thoughts: The shade 612 is a lovely forest green with no discernible shimmer.. It has a cream finish and wears decently. I mainly use this color for water marbling but even worn on its own, it is definitely pretty.

Nude nails: Colorbar Nail Polish in Flirty Mauve

Since I  work in a lab, I am always on the look out for neutral colours to wear when I have official meetings or presentations.

Product name: Colorbar Nail Polish Flirty Mauve 49
Product price: INR 110.
Product quantity: 9 ml.
Shelf life: Three years.

My thoughts: Flirty Mauve is a perfect nude polish for me. It is dirty mauve which leans towards a pale creamy brown in the bottle. When wet, I see the faintest silver shimmer in the polish which does not translate on the finished nails.

In the bottle

Baby blues: Lakme fast and fabulous nail paint in Misty Grey

I bought this polish for two reasons. The unique shape of the bottle really caught my eye and the color, oh the color.
Product name: Lakme Fast And Fabulous One Stroke Nail Color Misty Grey 34
Product price: INR 199.
Product quantity: 10 ml.
Shelf life: Three years.

My thoughts: In the bottle, the nail paint looks a pale pastel blue. I don't really see the grey in the name. Misty blue would have been more appropriate.
